took all the reasons i been workin for

yesterday, for the first time ever in my employment life, i had to fire someone.

naturally i was agitated and worried about it. "naturally" both because it's a sucky thing to have to do and, let's face it, agitated and worried is sort of my default setting anyway.

it actually went pretty ok. he was a noncontracted freelancer and took it very calmly. it helped that there was no complaint on our end. just a change that, businesswise, made tons o' sense.

but i still felt bad doing it, cause he's a nice guy. in fact, his taking it well probably made me feel a touch worse. if he'd been an ass i at least could've spent the afternoon on the self-righteous moral high ground. soooooooo comfy. as was, i spent the afternoon experiencing sypathetic cringes for his loss of income. after all, i do some freelance. many of my friends are freelancers.

plus i can't help feeling it's cosmically unfair that i had to fire someone before i've ever gotten to hire someone. seems backwards. not that i need to hire anyone for anything. it just looks like that would be more fun. for everyone.

maybe i should see if there's room in the budget for a personal masseuse. i'm sure that would make me feel better.
